General Information

The Shelby County Health Department is committed to providing our community with the most accurate information about Coronavirus Disease 2019, known as COVID-19.

For answers to specific questions, call the Shelby County Health Department COVID-19 Call Center at 901-222-MASK (6275).

The Department always seeks to provide education and technical assistance to all businesses before taking any action that disrupts the business, but in the event that any business refuses to comply with current safety measures by creating an unsafe environment for members of the public, the Department has the authority to close the establishment. In those rare instances when this occurs, the business will be asked to submit a safety plan for reopening within 14 days (an incubation period) prior to being allowed to resume operations.

Interim Guidance for Employers with Workers at High Risk

As workplaces consider a gradual scale up of activities towards pre-COVID-19 operating practices, it is particularly important to keep in mind that some workers are at higher risk for severe illness from COVID-19.

Testing at Work

Employers may consider conducting daily in-person or virtual health checks (e.g., symptom and/or temperature screening) to identify employees with signs or symptoms consistent with COVID-19 before they enter a facility, in accordance with CDC’s General Business FAQs. Employers should follow guidance from the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission external icon regarding confidentiality of medical records from health checks.
