What Happens If I Tested PositiveIndividuals & Families
Individuals who test positive for COVID-19 must report this information to the Department by calling 901-222-MASK (which is 901-222-6275) or by faxing the information to 901-222-8249. Individuals who test positive for COVID-19 must notify those who are known to have been in contact with them and otherwise comply with the Department on case investigations.
Please note, only the Shelby County Health Department can release you from isolation if you tested positive with COVID-19.

Steps to help prevent the spread of COVID-19 if you are sick
If you are sick with COVID-19 or think you might have COVID-19, follow the steps below to care for yourself and to help protect other people in your home and community.
1. Stay home except to get medical care
2. Monitor your symptoms
3. Wear a mask
4. Isolate or quarantine yourself from other people to prevent the spread
5. Cover your cough and sneezes
6. Wear a mask
7. Avoid sharing personal household items
8. Clean all “high-touch” surfaces everyday (i.e. phones, remote controls, counters, etc)
9. Wait the appropriate amount of time before being around others
When to Seek Emergency Medical Attention
Look for emergency warning signs* for COVID-19. If someone is showing any of these signs, seek emergency medical care immediately:
• Trouble breathing
• Persistent pain or pressure in the chest
• New confusion
• Inability to wake or stay awake
• Bluish lips or face
*This list is not all possible symptoms. Please call your medical provider for any other symptoms that are severe or concerning to you.
Call 911 or call ahead to your local emergency facility: Notify the operator that you are seeking care for someone who has or may have COVID-19.
